5 Free Indoor Places To Visit This January In/Near Herts & Essex!

January can be a challenging month for families. Purse strings can be quite tight for most people following the extravagance of Christmas and the weather is typically wet and cold at best! With that in mind I have a created a this post to help you find some fun January family days out. Beat the winter blues with some of these amazing family adventures!  I hope this little guide helps you find somewhere dry and fun to go!


The RAF Museum Hendon

RAF Museum London, Grahame Park Way, London, NW9 5LL

There is a large variety of aircraft and displays at the RAF Museum.   There are over 70 aircraft on display.   A full site visit which takes in the Wartime Hangars and the National Cold War Exhibition can take up to 4 hours.  There is also a lovely restaurant on site.  The RAF Museum is one of our favourite indoor days out – we usually download the FREE Autism friendly Trail before we go as it makes the visit a little competitive and extra fun!

Natural History Museum of Tring

Akeman Street, Tring, Hertfordshire HP23 6AP

The museum has 6 Galleries of zoological collections – originally belonging to collector Walter Rothschild.Discover animal specimens from all over the world here, from tiny beetles to huge bears.

Chelmsford Museum

Come and enjoy a great day out at this historic signal box in St Albans. A free-entry attraction for kids, families and railway enthusiasts of all ages.
