Michael & I both love our food. We eat out regularly, usually at least once a week. We have both travelled internationally for work. For me food became a huge part of those travels with big team dinners in the evening at some of the finest & most expensive restaurants Milan and Frankfurt. It was no different for Michael, he also travelled to Milan and Frankfurt on business but in addition he regularly visited the Nordic countries and Catalonia too. Michael had eaten everything from Crocodile to Reindeer. So I like to think between us we know a thing or two about fine dining and eating out!
When we were invited to sample the Sunday menu at the newly refurbished Nags Head in Brentwood we couldn’t wait to go.
The pub has been fully refurbished to a high standard. The ambience is very laid back and friendly and the decor is very plush and modern and feels very luxurious. We were instantly won over and immediately had a sense that we had just found one of new favourite places to dine locally!
The pub has an extensive menu and there is a great selection on the Children’s Menu too. It’s nice that the Children’s meals are presented as beautifully as the adult meals – usually adult meals are beautifully presented with chopping boards & chips in mini metal pans and then the kids are served on old school and frankly quite boring round plates! At The Nags Head the attention to detail included there little ones and Lily’s meal was also presented beautifully.
The staff at The Nags Head Brentwood are really friendly and incredibly hard working. Service was very smooth and courses were served at a lovely pace.
What is the food like at The Nags Head Brentwood?
Having eaten in some of the finest places in the world we can be a little critical when it comes to dining out. The Nags Head though was an absolute exception. The food was amazing. Beautifully presented & melt in the mouth. Both Michael & I have both said it is the nicest Sunday Roast we have ever had and possibly the nicest meal we have ever had. Quite an accolade!
We all ordered the Artisan Rustic Breads to start. There were a great selection of delicious warm breads served with Olives, Butter and Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar Dips. I chose the Chargrilled Lamb Koftas as a starter and Michael chose the Scallops.
The starters were beautifully presented, the portion sizes were large and the food was absolutely delicious! The best lamb koftas ever!
I always chose Lamb, so it was no surprise that I chose Roast Lamb Rump for my Sunday Dinner. The Roast Lamb Rump was served with Stuffing wrapped in Bacon, Beef Dripping Roasted Potatoes, Seasonal Greens and Roasted Roots alongside Yorkshire Pudding & bottomless Gravy. It was the most amazing Roast Dinner I have ever eaten. The flavours and textures blended perfectly and were incredible. The Lamb was literally melt in your mouth and had the most amazing jus. The flavours were just incredible. I would quite happily eat this every Sunday!
Michael chose the Trio of Roasts which was Sirloin of Beef, Pork and Chicken. It was served with Crackling, Stuffing wrapped in Bacon, Beef Dripping Roasted Potatoes, Seasonal Greens and Roasted Roots accompanied by Yorkshire Pudding and Bottomless Gravy. Michael absolutely loved his Sunday Roast and said it was the best he had ever tasted.
Lily had Fish and Chips from the Children’s Menu and really enjoyed it.
For Pudding both Lily & I had the Chocolate Brownie and Michael had the Creme Brûlée. The desserts were incredible the brownie was rich, soft and gooey – baked to perfection. Michael loves his Creme Brûlée.
The pub had a lovely little garden with outdoor dining area. The garden was perfect for keeping Lily entertained between courses.
We will definitely visit The Nags Head Brentwood again soon for Sunday Lunch as it has very quickly become a firm favourite!
