There is a lot of research that shows that families who choose to eat together really do benefit in more ways than one. When you sit down to share a meal together, you can easily strengthen your relationships and you can also boost the level of communication that you have as well. On top of this, kids who eat family meals on a regular basis are known for performing better in school as well. If you are struggling to get the whole family around for dinner then here are some helpful tips to get you started.
Create Days that have a Theme
One way for you to really get the whole family excited for dinner is to have themed days. You could have Taco Tuesday for example, and this is a brilliant way for you to get everyone around the table at the same time. You may even find that the whole family are excited for dinner as well, and this can really help you to get a good routine going. Kids love to have something exciting to look forward to, and themed dinner days do just that.
Everyone has a place in the kitchen, whether they are setting the table or even whether they are loading up the dishwasher. If you want to make sure that everyone is involved then it’s important that everyone has a role. Get everyone to help out, whether it is choosing the meal for that day or whether it is choosing the dip selection to go with the fries. By including everyone, you can be sure to keep them interested in meal times and this is the secret to getting the whole family over
at the same time.
You really can’t get away from having dinner and there is a high chance that the kids have rumbling stomachs who are waiting to be fed. For this reason, it’s a good idea to have a meal option that can be prepared in a very short space of time. Slow cookers are great here because it makes dinner for whenever you need it. If someone happens to be late then you can easily keep it warm and it is ready the second they walk through the door as well.
Get a New Table
If you don’t have enough dining furniture to have everyone round at the same time then consider buying some more. If you are having to mix and match chairs every time someone sits down then this will make it much harder for you to get everyone motivated. Make sure that there is
space for everyone and that nobody is having to compromise.
Have Some Music
When you have everyone round, the last thing that you’ll want to do is give the kids a good scolding about how messy their room is. Try and keep the mood positive and play some music as well. This is a great way for you to really get everyone talking and it can really make the whole thing more fun as well. You’d be surprised at how much of a difference this can make.
