How to get the perfect summer garden for families

Summer for us is all about fun in the sun, BBQ’s and, most importantly, family time.  We spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer; especially in our garden. We take pride in making our garden a special space we can relax in & have fun and enjoy together.

Here are my essential things for a summer garden for families:

An outdoor sofa set – we all love ours & gets used a lot in the summer.  It’s a lovely place to go and relax and sit and read a book or even play a board game together.

A formal dining space – we love BBQ’s in the summer and it’s lovely to be able to sit together around the dining table and all enjoy each other’s company.

A BBQ – Michael spent ages choosing the right BBQ when we moved into our home.  In the end he went for a large BBQ with lots of different shelves and things for cooking things on.

Toys – Lily loves having her garden toys; we have a Wendy house, small trampoline, large paddling pool and lots of water sprinklers in all shapes and sizes from dogs to worms!  We ha e so much fun playing in the water on hot days.

Grass – we spend a lot of time on the grass in the summer; especially when we’re running around through all the sprinklers making our own splash park.  Our grass is a little uneven in places though so we do have to be very careful with our footing.  One thing very much on our agenda for the future is to get artificial grass laid professionally.

Shed – This one sounds boring and sensible but the reality is we have so many garden toys and so much garden furniture that we need a space large enough to store it all, I don’t know how we would cope with it all without our shed!

Flower Bed – We love having a flower bed in the garden as not only does it attract & nourish wildlife, but also it looks really pretty; especially when the flowers are in full bloom.

What are your summer garden essentials?   Do you have any plans for improving your garden this summer?
