Flip through any interiors magazine or scroll through a pinterest board, and chances are you’ll see your fair amount of minimalism. Minimal interiors are categorised by simple decor such as light walls, wooden floors, and a ‘less is more’ approach. Whilst a totally minimal look might not be everyone’s cup of tea, sometimes simplifying a room is the best way to give it a quick and easy update! Find out how to do this in your bedroom with these tips.
Tone down the colours
If your bedroom is filled with bright colours and busy patterns, consider stripping your walls back to a simpler colour scheme. Shades like white, light grey and beige all make great base colours for a minimalist themed bedroom. If you prefer a hint of colour, you could always choose one area to paint a feature wall in your colour of choice.
Keep it tidy
Nothing kills the vibe of a beautifully decorated room like piles of clutter. That’s why it’s so important to get some stylish storage options for your bedroom to keep the space nice and tidy. There are lots of great storage ideas out there for bedrooms, such as adding floating shelves to walls or using drawer organisers to maximise storage space. If you choose storage boxes, make sure they match the decor of the rest of the room. Wicker baskets are a big trend at the moment, and are perfect for storing things like clean bedding while still having a beautiful rustic feel.
Invest in feature items
Even though you’re aiming for a less is more outlook, that doesn’t mean you can’t keep a few feature items in the room. Items like a black or grey velvet divan bed give a hint of luxury amongst the rest of the minimal decor, without being garish enough to clash with the feel of the room. Other items such as an upholstered chair, bold rug or some fabric curtains can also add something extra to your bedroom without being overwhelming.
Accessorise the space
While you don’t want to go OTT with the accessories, a few chic details couldn’t hurt. Minimal framed artwork, lamps, plants, and cushions and throws are all great ways to add a new element to the room and even introduce some colour if needed. House plants are particularly good for the bedroom as they not only look great but they also improve air quality, helping you get a more restful night’s sleep. Make your house plants that little bit more interesting with some beautiful plant pots or stands, available in a variety of styles to suit your new bedroom.
