Imagine having some time to yourself; time to relax, reflect, re focus and more importantly recharge the batteries. That is exactly what me and my husband have just done, and I can tell you, it feels amazing. When Whittlebury Hall Spa & Hotel invited us along for a review we imagined we would have a lovely time, but we did not realise we would come away feeling so relaxed, re energised and recharged.

We arrived at the hotel and checked in at the hotel reception, we were too early to get our room key so we stowed our overnight bags & headed over to the spa reception. The overnight bags were being delivered to our room once it was ready; it was lovely to have to worry about them again.
We checked in at the spa reception and received our welcome packs which detailed our treatment times & lunch time. We also received our locker bracelets; our dressing gowns and towels were waiting for us in the lockers.
Both of us chose Back, Neck & Shoulder Massages and our treatments were both at the same time. We headed straight to the treatment waiting area as by the time we got changed into our robes it was nearly time for our treatments. We had both chosen Back, Neck & Shoulder Massages. My shoulders and back were so tense and it was amazing during the massage feeling all those unwanted knots literally melting away. My muscles we feeling a little tired and achy after the massage.
After our massages we went to the Heat & Ice Experience. It was an amazing feeling stepping into the warmth of the hydrotherapy pool and feeling the pressure of the jets against my tired and achy muscles.
We then went and tried out all the other heat & ice experience; my favourites were the Aromatherapy crystal steam and the Ice Cave. There were a perfect combination. Heat and Ice has a powerful relaxing effect on the muscles and leaves you feeling amazing. My skin felt so fresh and clean after the Heat & Ice experience.
Next stop was lunch. I am really fussy so always dread buffet lunches; but this was different. There was so much that I ended up having a 2 course lunch. I had a tasty vegetable soup with bread to start (actually I had 2 bowls of soup because it was so nice I went back for seconds). I then had a Jacket potato with Chicken Breast & Ham.
After lunch we checked in to our room and made full use of the tea and coffee facilities. It was lovely to sit and read and drink tea and eat biscuits and just generally be able to relax without the need to rush anywhere.
We went for a walk after lunch and read one of the incredible handwritten letters from Princess Diana that adorn the hallway. Princess Diana grew up not far from Whittlebury Hall Spa & Hotel to the Althorp estate where she is now buried; the Althorp estate is a 30 minute drive from Whittlbury Hall Spa & Hotel and well worth a visit as it contains some of Diana’s dresses & personal artifacts, you are also able to see across to the island where Diana is buried. I thoroughly recommend combining a trip to Althorp while you are here.
We also had a look at some of the motor racing memorabilia in the Silverstone Bar. The hotel is ideally placed for a visit to Silverstone or Towcester Racecourse as well so you would certainly have a choice of places nearby to visit on your way there/home.
After our walk went back into the Heat & Ice experiences and then headed over to the swimming pool for a quick dip. As it happened when we got there we found a really cosy lounger, sat down and never quite made it up again to get into the pool; to be honest I was more ready to fall asleep for the day than swim as I was so relaxed.
We went back to our room to get changed for dinner. Dinner was in Astons restaurant and we had Lamb, crushed new potatoes, carrot puree and kale. The meal was supposed to be served with a red wine sauce; but I am really not a fan of that so I asked if they could give me gravy instead and they happily obliged. I did not see anything on the dessert menu that I liked so the waiting staff were really kind and offered me Ice Cream. I am so glad they did as it was honestly the best chocolate Ice Cream I have ever tasted it was so creamy and thick.
We went to bed after dinner and was really looking forward to a nice peaceful nights sleep. Both of us slept really well, the bed was so comfortable and the room was really quiet overnight. We had a lovely breakfast in Astons, there was plenty of choice and the food was really nice. I had a croissant followed by a Full English. We decided to go home after breakfast as we felt we had done the spa twice the day before and could not really get any more relaxed than we were. We also had a long journey ahead of us and had to pick Miss H up from her sleepover at her grandparents so it made sense to get up and go.
We had a really lovely visit and would definitely recommend Whittlebury Hall Spa & Hotel to anyone looking to relax, unwind and generally get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life.
