On 21 and 22 October hundreds of dogs will be descending on the ExCel Exhibition Centre in London for Eukanuba Discover Dogs – London’s biggest dog event.
Discover Dogs is a fun event for the whole family and visitors get to meet and interact with over 200 breeds of dog, of all shapes and sizes, making it a completely unique event and a great day out those thinking about getting a dog and wanting to find out which breed could be best for their lifestyle, or those who just want to be around dogs.
There are 218 pedigree dog breeds and so much choice can be overwhelming for those looking for a puppy, but each breed is split into one of seven groups – working, pastoral, gundog, toy, utility, hound and terrier – each of which were developed for different functions and which share similar characteristics.
You can use this predictability to help you choose the perfect dog for you. For example, are you a city dweller, looking for a dog with moderate exercise needs and easy to groom? Perhaps a Miniature Pinscher would be right for you? Or do you want a family dog, with a friendly nature, such as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or Labrador? Perhaps you have the time to spare for advanced training and want a lively, energetic dog that will give you lots of exercise in the country air, such as a Border Collie? Eukanuba Discover Dogs is a great way to meet breeds you have never even heard of, including some of the rarer ones that are considered by the Kennel Club to be at risk of disappearing from our streets and parks, such as the Irish Red and White Setter, Dandie Dinmont Terrier and the Otterhound.
The event will be packed with exciting displays and competitions, including fast and furious dog agility competitions (obstacle courses for dogs) and the semi-final of the Scruffts competition, where crossbreeds compete for titles such as Golden Oldie and Child’s Best Friend. New this year is the ‘Have a go’ area, where visitors can try out various dog activities with volunteer dogs to get a taster of the many exciting things people can do with dogs.
Those looking for a bit of retail therapy will be in doggy heaven and can shop ‘til they drop for dog related products and gifts, so for thosewho already own a dog it’s a chance to spoil their much loved four legged friend. The show is open from 10am to 5pm both days and under 8s are free. For more information, visit www.discoverdogs.org.uk.
Competition closes: 31st August 2017. UK entrants over 18 only. One winner will be selected at random.
